What We Know So Far About the Ferrari Purosangue
Despite initially strongly refusing to include SUVs in its range, Ferrari has finally chosen to join the high-performance SUV bandwagon that its competitors have been riding for quite some time. The Purosangue, which means “pureblood” in Italian, is a mysterious SUV that Ferrari has kept under wraps. With high-performance SUVs such as the Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne, and Aston Martin DBX raking in the cash, it was only a matter of time before Ferrari joined the fray. If this has caught your interest, here’s what we know so far about the Ferrari Purosangue!
It Will Almost Certainly Have All-Wheel Drive
With all-wheel drive coming standard on the Urus, Cayenne, and DBX as well as on the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Ferrari would be naive not to include it on the Purosangue—even if the vehicle won’t be as eager to go off-road as a Rover or G-Wagon. With Ferrari’s experience in producing an all-wheel-drive car in the GTC4Lusso, it’s only natural that the Purosangue will be available with AWD or possibly four-wheel-drive.
It Will Be Based on the Roma Platform
Because the Purosangue already has the underpinnings of an all-wheel-drive Ferrari, after the announcement of the four-door Ferrari crossover, practically everyone in the industry assumed it would be a replacement for the GTC4Lusso. However, the Purosangue will be based on the all-new front-engine GT architecture that the Italian automaker revealed with the 2020 Roma coupe. As a result, the Purosangue will be able to support not only an all-wheel-drive powertrain but also a plug-in hybrid system from the start.
It Will Launch Sometime in 2022
Following its introduction by Ferrari in 2018, the Purosangue has been observed in its test mule form undergoing rigorous testing in and around the Ferrari premises. With new spy images revealing that the future “FUV” is currently being tested on city roads, it’s a foregone conclusion that the Purosangue will finally lose its camouflage and be released in 2022. What remains to be seen is whether the Italian super-SUV will make its debut in the first or second half of the year. Whatever the case may be, the entire industry—particularly purchasers who have yet to book their Uruses and DBXs—is waiting with baited breath for the covers to be removed from the Purosangue.
