Luxury Vehicles That Bit the Dust on the Big Screen

Justin Kohl • Dec 06, 2021

When it comes to movies and cars, the two certainly have a weird relationship. In most cases, you can either expect cars to either be widely celebrated within a movie—or absolutely destroyed. While it is unknown why movie directors decide to smash these kinds of cars on the screen, we definitely know that it elicits many different emotions for the true car fan. In an effort to sum up some of the most memorable luxury car destructions in cinema, here are the top ten luxury vehicles that bit the dust on the big screen for everyone to see!

Chrysler Imperial Crown in Green Hornet

Simply put, the black beauty from this movie is one of the most iconic cars ever seen in a superhero movie. The superb angles, lines, and colors really drive home the fact that this car is on par with anything batman has in his arsenal. Alas, this movie makes it very clear that it is still a regular car, as by the car is completely totaled the end of the movie. Fun fact, more than 26 cars were totaled throughout the whole movie, with only three surviving the movie production!

Lamborghini Murcielago in The Dark Knight

While the dark knight does not have a lot of notable car scenes, there is one notable car crash. Seeing Bruce Wayne speeding towards that intersection to save his employee who is about to expose him is something, but seeing the head-on collision is something else. The best part about this scene is seeing the aftermath of the crash and the look of bewilderment on the employee's face as Bruce buries his head in his hands!

Aston Martin DB5 in Skyfall

The return of James Bond in Skyfall was certainly an exciting prospect, as it had all the action, suspense, and terror that a James Bond movie is known for. To boot, the Aston Martin, Bond’s signature car, makes a reappearance as a supreme callback to the original James Bond image. However, after Javier Bardem destroys the car, we can't help but feel a bit of loss. Seeing such an automobile shot up and exploded is sure to bring tears to any avid car fan.

Corvette Stingray in Con Air

This surprise destruction captivated audiences in 1997 when this movie premier with a beautiful car and John Cusack, playing a disgruntled US marshal trying to get the passengers back to safety amid danger. While the owner of this car may have deserved it, you have to wonder whether the car deserved the surprise flight that takes place halfway through the movie. Remember, 1997 special effects were extremely basic, meaning that they had to make this scene in real life.

Lamborghini Gallardo in Mission: Impossible III

This one is a bit simpler than the other torture fests that some of these producers seem to drag on at the expense of our sanity. However, we’re not sure if exploding a car to bits is necessarily any better than some of these other scenes. Why Maggie Q had to detonate the vehicle in the first place is beyond us, but the scene sure jerk at our heartstrings after the smoke settled. The real question: in what world is blowing up a vehicle a great way to escape detection?

Mercedes Benz Cabriolet in The Hangover

While the hangover is certainly an entertaining and fun-filled movie, what the producers did to the Mercedes Cabriolet that played a central role in the film is a bit less fun. Not only did this car almost get hit on the freeway, but it even had its upholstery eaten and scratched by a tiger, as well as many, many, many other collisions. Needless to say, at least this trio of derelicts at least managed to deliver the car back to the wedding in “one piece.”

Ferrari Spider in The Rock

For some reason, 90s action movies absolutely love to rip our hearts out with an exceedingly destructive car chase scene. To boot, every single explosion, fire, and car crash is absolutely real in these movies, as they didn’t have the level of special effects we have today. Unfortunately, the Ferrari Spider that was the subject in The Rock was made to suffer through all of this, only to be plowed into a derailed car at the last minute. The only thing we can take as solace from this scene is that the Ferrari absolutely did not belong to Nicholas Cage!

Bentley Continental GT in The Longest Yard

While an Adam Sandler movie may not often have violence, guns, and gratuitous car wrecks, when one does, we are absolutely all over it! The poor victim of this scene was a white Bentley Continental GT that got rear-ended multiple times by police vehicles after making a sudden stop in an intersection during the pursuit. This full stop is unusual in any car chase scene, but what really capped this scene off was the break-up that follows. While it certainly breaks your heart to see such a beautiful vehicle beat up in such a way, it certainly is entertaining to see Adam Sandler jump out of the Bentley with a big smile and his hands held high!

Lykan Hypersport in Furious 7

Even if everything that happened in the Lykan Hypersport scenes wasn't entirely true, it was still difficult to witness the beautiful car be abused so badly. The car went through a lot throughout the movie, as it was kidnapped from inside a building, driven through a lobby while shattering several panes of glass, and even jumped in between two buildings. While this car did not make it through these scenes unscathed, we are sure that Dom and Brian were left perfectly ok!

We hope this article has been informative on the most notable luxury vehicles that bit the dust on the big screen.
